Frequently Asked Questions

Are your cattle born and raised on your land?

Yes. We are a cow-calf / stocker operation and all our cattle sold for beef are born and raised on the family ranch. They are born on pasture and stay with their mothers for 8-9 months until they’re weaned, we background them to a uniform weight and finish them on grain, corn, and forages.

What does grass-fed, grain-finished mean?

Our cattle spend the majority of their lives on pastures eating grass and 4-6 months in a finishing program eating a balanced diet of grains and forages.

Where is Doverspike Beef processed?

Doverspike Beef is processed at Five Marys Custom Meat Co, a USDA facility in Fort Jones, CA. Five Marys Custom Meat Co. is owned and operated by the Doverspikes’ brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Mary Heffernan. They go to great lengths to make sure every animal is harvested humanely and with the utmost care, followed by an extended dry-age in first class dry-aging rooms with custom systems and equipment. Five Marys craft butchers cut meat the old-fashioned way and pack each cut with care and attention, knowing it’s going directly to your family and your table.

What certifications do you have?

We are third party certified by Where Food Comes From for Age and Source Verification, Verified Natural Beef, NHTC (non-Hormone Treated Cattle), Beef Care, non-GMO, and GAP (Global Animal Partnership) Certified with Earth claims.
